The expansion of the R&D campus contains a steel-framed extension that includes laboratories, offices, a canteen, an open landscaped courtyard, and links at the ground and first-floor levels to the existing R&D facility with high-spec architectural cladding and glazing to the exterior.
The open landscaped courtyard separates the new and existing buildings, with the ground and first-floor connections linking the two.
The links required demolition inside the existing building to facilitate structural steel and concrete floor slab tie-ins, which were carefully completed to ensure zero disruption to the ongoing PepsiCo operations.
Site works included new underground services around the building perimeter and a process drainage road crossing the existing public road. Works also included the demolition of an existing building to facilitate a new delivery yard, and new site finishes to the entire site and adjacent buildings.
The building was officially opened by Simon Coveney TD, Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, alongside Mary Buckley, Executive Director, IDA Ireland, and Mayor of Cork County, Cllr Deirdre O’Brien. The new building will expand PepsiCo’s manufacturing capacity across its range of beverage ingredients using modern manufacturing technology.
