DLR LEISURE LOUGHLINSTOWN

PJ Hegarty completed work on the Loughlinstown Leisure Centre in 2013, delivering a state of the art sports facility on time and within budget. The project included construction of a new 25-metre swimming pool and changing facilities, four outdoor artificial pitches with pitch side changing facilities, a new reception area, coffee shop, childrens’ play area and improved parking. The entire centre itself was also refurbished and modernised to equip it for the 21st Century.

Client : Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council
Service : Leisure
Architect : Simon J. Kelly Architects
Quantity Surveyor : Peter F. Costello & Partners
Structural Engineer : Arup Griffin
Services Engineer : Don O’Malley & Partners
Value : €4.7 million

The existing leisure centre building was newly rendered and a new entrance foyer was added to replace the existing pavilion, to create more light and open space. The project was completed in phases and required careful logistical planning, with the artificial pitches completed first, followed by the centre itself. Construction and site works were carried out during live operations and strict safety protocols were implemented to protect staff and customers, which required close coordination with our partners and DLR Leisure Services.

The centre was specifically designed to meet the needs of customers with physical and visual impairments, including wheelchair showers and accessible pool entry, as well as a state of the art mobile hoist providing transport from changing rooms to the pool.
