Peter McVerry Trust Cycle 2023

The PJ Hegarty Cycling Club was proud to participate in the annual Peter McVerry Trust Cycle last weekend. Despite unforgiving and challenging weather conditions on the day, the team completed the cycle of the Leopardstown Loop through the Wicklow Way.

We are proud to be sponsors for one of the most important fundraising event for this charity. Funds raised will help Peter McVerry Trust continue to deliver crucial support and services to those impacted by homelessness who need help the most in communities across Ireland.

Sunflower Competition

As part of our biodiversity initiative and to support World Bee Day, we launched a ‘Grow Your Own Sunflowers’ project in March this year.

We supplied seeds to all our staff, and thanks to dedication and green thumbs, sunflowers bloomed across Irish and UK gardens. We also had project teams construct planters using recycled pallets and sow wildflowers for our bees and other pollinators to enjoy.

We are very proud of everyone who joined us in this initiative to promote biodiversity and support our pollinators who are fundamental for the health of ecosystems and food security across the globe.

Boston Scientific Administration Building

We are proud to have successfully delivered Boston Scientific Administration Building. Located at the Business & Technology Park on Model Farm Road, Cork, the new administration building spans over 3,000m2. The three-storey building has been seamlessly integrated with existing structures on the site and is now the home to a range of modern functional spaces, including a canteen, office space for 88 staff, meeting rooms, support areas and break-out spaces.

Sustainability took centre stage in this project, and we are delighted the building has achieved LEED GOLD certification. This accomplishment further underlines our commitment to sustainable practices and innovation.

The building was constructed with a reinforced concrete frame, exposed board marked concrete internally, and a fully glazed external façade. It is founded on piles which were carefully installed to avoid damage to existing underground services to the production building, and mechanical plant equipment and solar PV panels are located on the roof. The project also consisted of relocating 35 existing car parking spaces and creating an additional 40 spaces within the new parking area. The internal road layout underwent modifications for better traffic flow and new landscaped areas with boundary planting were installed.

The project was completed within the curtilage of a Protected Structure, honouring the legacy of the ‘Former Munster Institute’ (PS637).

Lighthouse Club Site Visit

Last week at our major Pharma Project in Limerick, we were delighted to host Lee Anderson and Rob Muldoon, representatives from the Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity who are part of the #MakeitVisible team.

Throughout the day, Lee and Rob captivated the team with their heartfelt talks, sharing their personal struggles within the industry. Their stories shed light on the challenges construction workers and their families face and, most importantly, the vital support available to them through the Charity.

With the project employing over 800 people, we understand the importance of open conversation and support within the construction community. The Make It Visible initiative is about making wellbeing support visible in construction; in sight, on every site.

Kilkenny Cheese Production Facility Progress

We have great progress to report from our project in Belview, the new cheese production facility for Kilkenny Cheese, a joint venture between Tirlán and their Dutch partner, Royal A-ware.

The 18,000 square metres main production building is well advanced, with the milk intake building and site-wide infrastructure keeping pace.

The new facility will be one of Europe’s most efficient and sustainable continental cheese production facilities. Once complete, it will produce over 50,000 tonnes of continental cheese annually, including Edam, Gouda and Emmental cheese varieties.

Pride 2023

Last week, to celebrate Pride month, we held a coffee morning filled with fruit and treats to celebrate diversity and promote inclusion within our company and beyond.

PJ Hegarty is on a journey to build a more inclusive workplace for all our employees, who are the heart and soul of our company. We are committed to creating an environment where everyone can be their authentic selves, and for this month and beyond, we stand in support of LGBTQ+ colleagues and community.

We have also scheduled a webinar with Pride at Work to teach us how to understand the meaning and concept of Diversity, Intersectionality, Equality v Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.

Cork Summer BBQ 2023

Last week, we had a fantastic Summer BBQ in Cork at the Penrose Dock Sky Room, the stunning award-winning building sitting on the banks of the river Lee which we completed for JCD Group in 2020.

Despite the sun disappearing for the party, everyone had a brilliant evening which brought together colleagues from our Cork and Limerick offices!

Grant Thornton 5k Cork City

Well done to everyone who took part in the #GT5k race series last night in sunny Cork city and well done to our team who came 3rd in the team event, a great result!

A massive thank you to Grant Thornton Ireland for putting together this brilliant event and raising much-needed funds for Children in Hospital Ireland. Children in Hospital Ireland works to promote a positive hospital experience for all children by mobilising over 500 volunteers to facilitate play and respite, daily in 14 children’s hospitals around the county.

Congrats to Declan O’Donoghue who came in 20th overall on the night with a fantastic 19:15 race time.

Charity Abseils

Team members across Ireland took part in two exhilarating charity abseils this past May. Scaling the heights Smithfield Tower in Dublin and Thomond Park in Limerick, vital funds were raised for Ronald McDonald House and the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation.

Ronald McDonald House Ireland Charity Abseil

Six brave team members abseiled down the 60 meters high Smithfield Tower to raise funds and show their support for Ronald McDonald House Ireland.

All donations raised help Ronald McDonald House keep its doors open for families of seriously ill children. Well done to Noel, Daryl, Feidhlim, Michael, Robert and Dawn for taking on the abseil challenge.

Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation Charity Abseil

In Limerick, team members abseiled over 140ft from the top of Thomond Park to raise funds for the The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation.

It was an exhilarating experience for the twenty participants, which included some of our trade partners from our Limerick Pharma project. We are very grateful to everyone on the project for supporting the team.

Thanks to the generosity of those who supported us, we were able to make a contribution of over €10,000 to the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation, which provides in-home nursing care and respite support for children up to the age of 6 with severe to profound cognitive delay.

“€18 provides one hour of nursing care in the home, and we hope our participation and fundraising for this event can make a difference for the children and families supported by Jack & Jill”

Darkness Into Light 2023

A team of 25 staff members from across our city-centre sites took on the Pieta Darkness into Light walk this morning, walking through the heart of Dublin City Centre during sunrise to raise awareness for suicide prevention.

Commencing at our Ronan Group Real Estate and Google project sites on Grand Canal Street, the team journeyed past our recently completed IPUT Real Estate Dublin’s Tropical Fruit Warehouse and Salesforce buildings, finishing at our recently commenced project for Citi and Ronan Group Real Estate on the docks of the river Liffey.

By participating in this event, we hope to help break mental health stigma and encourage those struggling to seek help and support. We wish Pieta the best of luck for the event tomorrow morning and everyone who will join in walking for this vital cause.

Darkness Into Light is the flagship fundraiser for Pieta and, since 2006, has helped over 60,000 people in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm.
