Sean Carrigy Retires

After a remarkable 44-year career that helped shape the infrastructure and skyline of Cork and beyond, Operations Director Sean Carrigy, has retired from his role in our Irish business. Sean joined PJ Hegarty in 1979 and leaves a remarkable legacy within our company and across the construction industry. Throughout his career, Sean has worked on many landmark projects spanning infrastructure advancements across Ireland, major pharmaceutical developments, and a portfolio of residential and commercial projects.

We are delighted Sean will continue working with our UK team in 2024 but he will be greatly missed from our Cork office as a leader, colleague, mentor and friend. We extend our gratitude to Sean for his contributions to the company and wish Sean and Niamh well in retirement.

Santa’s Grotto Kids Christmas Party 2023

We held our annual Santa’s Grotto kid’s party in Dublin and Cork earlier this month. We welcomed many little guests to see the main man, Santa, who generously shared STEM toys with the boys and girls from a small Irish company, Cogs Toys and Games.

Check out the photos below to see some of the festive fun.

  • Triple-storey glazed entrance, complemented by travertine stone floor and wall finishes
  • State-of-the-art mechanical and electrical fit-out

The double basement area will provide 474 car parking spaces and equal cycle parking facilities, aligning with our commitment to sustainable transport. The project also includes extensive site infrastructure works such as internal roads, cycle paths, ESB substations, plant rooms, and comprehensive civil drainage works and hard and soft landscaping over the podium slab.

Well done to the design team, our project team and supply chain partners on delivering another exceptional project for our clients.

Zoetis

We are proud to have competed the state-of-the-art facility in Tullamore for Zoetis, the world’s leading animal health company. The new facility will house production lines for biological therapeutics and monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), marking a fourfold increase in the site’s manufacturing capacity.

This project encompassed a range of Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) design and construction elements. It featured an 8510m² single-story biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility, including laboratory and office spaces. Additionally, the development saw the construction of a mezzanine plant room, a new 150-space car park, a sprinkler pump house, a medium voltage ESB substation, and external utility yards.

Well done to the design team, our project team and supply chain partners on delivering another exceptional project for our clients.

This award is presented to companies that have demonstrated high growth in both revenue and profit over the past year while operating in the UK market for a minimum of three years.

Since commencing trading in the UK, our team’s dedication to excellence in all aspects of our operations has culminated in achieving this accolade. We want to thank all our staff, clients, stakeholders, supply chain and BITA, who are dedicated to strengthening business ties between the UK and Ireland.

Irish Construction Industry Awards 2023

PJ Hegarty are proud to have picked up the Residential Project of the Year at the 2023 Irish Construction Industry Awards.

Spencer Place Residential is a sustainable development nestled in the heart of Dublin’s Docklands. The development, providing 329 build-to-rent apartments and 64 co-living units, boasts ample amenity space, gardens, and shared community facilities.

Midleton Distillery Experience

We are incredibly proud to have been involved in the Midleton Distillery Experience, which was officially opened by Irish Distillers and Tánaiste Micheal Martin.

The visitor centre has undergone a multi-million-euro redevelopment, transforming the venue into a world-class, multi-sensory Irish whiskey experience. PJ Hegarty has a rich history with Irish Distillers, with works dating back to 1928, and we have had the pleasure of working on the Midleton Distillery site since the 1970s, working on new build construction, upgrades, conservation and maintenance works.

On this project, conservation and restoration of the existing structures and features were paramount, as many of the original distillery buildings date back to 1794. To preserve the fabric of the historic buildings, improvements and upgrades using like-for-like materials in conjunction with modern construction methods were utilised. The project was constructed with sustainability and efficiency at the fore of the design. Incorporating an efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and the retrofit of existing buildings will deliver improved energy performance throughout the venue and help reduce energy usage.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this project a resounding success, including Ralph Appelbaum Associates, Fraser Randall Ltd, Michael Lucey & Associates, PM Group and Allen Barber and Associates.
