Darkness into Light 2024

PJ Hegarty is looking forward to again participating in the Pieta Darkness into Light challenge on the 10th of May, walking from our Treasury to our Waterfront project during sunrise to raise vital awareness for suicide prevention.

Education and awareness about mental health have greatly improved over the past few years within the construction industry, but there are still barriers and stigmas to be broken down. Watch our video to see why our team members believe participating in Darkness into Light and having conversations about mental health are essential.

Workers’ Memorial Day 2024

Today we commemorated Workers’ Memorial Day in the Garden of Remembrance, where we remembered everyone who has lost their lives or suffered illness or injury due to work-related accidents.

At PJ Hegarty, we honour their memory by reaffirming our commitment to safety. Safety is not just a word to us; it’s a value embedded in everything we do. We are committed to the physical and psychological safety and wellbeing of all our people, clients, partners, and neighbours.

Sleep Webinar for National Workplace Wellbeing Day

For National Workplace Wellbeing Day, sleep expert Tom Coleman hosted a Sleep Masterclass webinar for our Ireland and UK teams.

Sleep is a key pillar in our overall health and wellbeing, influencing everything from physical health to mental clarity and emotional resilience. Our team learned about sleep stages, creating a sleep-friendly environment, balancing work-life demands, and practical tips for better sleep and stress relief.

The webinar gave our teams valuable tools for cultivating healthy sleep habits and enhancing their overall wellbeing going forward.

University College Cork Site Visit

Recently, we welcomed students from University College Cork‘s Third-Year Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering class to one of our major Cork projects. For many of the students, this was their first time on a construction site, which presented an invaluable opportunity to see theory put into practice around site establishment, site EHS, earthworks, substructures, and superstructures.

Contracts Manager Noel McDonnell and EHS Advisor Sarah McCarthy facilitated the visit, which was co-ordinated by Mark Poland and Tim Cronin of the UCC Construction Project Management module and Estimating Director Pat Casey.

WALK PEER Programme

We were delighted to welcome students from Scoil Bernadette, Montenotte, to our Cork site as part of the WALK PEER programme which helps bridge the transition for students from special education to employment. Our visitors, interested in careers in trades such as carpentry and joinery, had the opportunity to speak directly with our skilled tradespeople, learning about the various career pathways construction offers and the level of collaboration between the trades at each project stage.

Our Contracts Manager, Noel McDonnell, guided the tour alongside HR Business Partner, Genevieve Rose. They demonstrated our commitment to developing a supportive and inclusive work environment while our people shared their experiences working in trades, offering valuable insights into their roles and the dynamic nature of the industry.
